I've been trying to think what to say in my first blog for weeks now, so I finally decided to get over it and write whatever comes out. That usually works anyway.. So Tuesday night I went with my best friend Lindsey, her boyfriend Cody, and two of her friends to see Julien-K, The Birthday Massacre, and Mindless Self Indulgence at Rockettown. I don't know if you've ever been there, but it is pretty much Nashville's equivalent of hell. The first floor is more like purgatory, with it's couches and generally nice "chill out" atmosphere, but once you go downstairs it all disappears into the dark, hot, over-crowded, cement box that is Rockettown. Needless to say though, the show made up for it. If you've never seen MSI live, I highly recommend going. It was possibly the most entertaining show I've ever been too. It was a total high-energy puppet show with a bad attitude that 'fabulous' doesn't even begin to describe.

In random, animal-liberation news, I wrote a letter tonight to Tyson Foods about the inhumane treatment of their chickens and why they havn't done anything about it. Check out: http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/tortured_by_tyson My letter was as follows:

"In January 2008, PETA filed a formal complaint with Forsyth County, Georgia, District Attorney Penny Penn calling for vigorous prosecution of the perpetrators and the company for cruelty to animals. Nearly five months later, Penn has yet to reply to numerous attempts by PETA and others to discuss the evidence and what her office has done or intends to do."

I'm sorry but I just don't understand. Why exactly do you not care about the torturing of numerous, helpless animals? I just don't understand how a person could know of such events occuring in their own workplace and not do anything at all about it. I realize and accept the fact that you may not be an animal lover and may only think of them as trivial, but like it or not they do feel just like everybody else. During the Holocaust, thousands of Jews were persecuted and tortured in concentration camps. You didn't know those people and may or may not have anything in common with them, but I'm going to infer that you believe that what happened to them was wrong and should have been stopped. Why should the chickens have to go through the same pain? Do they not have nerves just like people? I understand that this is your career and I'm not trying to tell you to end your business because that would be a waste of both of our time, but I would just like to ask you to stop and think about what these innocent birds are going through and the possible ways you could make it less painful and terrifying for them. After all, they never did anything to you.

"One worker admitted that he broke a chicken's back by beating the bird against a rail, that a back-up killer stabbed birds in the neck area with knives, and that several birds were hung from shackles by their necks instead of their legs."

"PETA's investigator caught a supervisor on videotape as he told the investigator that it was acceptable to rip the heads off live birds who had been improperly shackled by the head."

"Workers—sometimes standing 4 to 6 feet away from the conveyor belt—violently threw birds against the shackles. Some animals were slammed into the shackles and fell onto birds on the conveyor belt below, at which point the workers sometimes repeated the abuse."

"Birds died when their heads and legs became trapped under a door at the end of the conveyor belt that transported live birds to be hung. A supervisor was aware of this problem but did nothing to stop it."

"The killing-machine blade often cut birds' bodies instead of their throats. Although aware of this problem, a supervisor offered no solution and instead blamed the problem on the 'nature of the machine.'"
